CSUEB's Auriel Bill Snags Second WWPA Player of the Week Award in 2017

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. -- Cal State East Bay freshman Auriel Bill has been selected as the KAP7 Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) Women's Player of the Week for the week of Apr. 3-9, it was announced Tuesday.

Bill, a native of Estevan, Saskatchewan (Canada), led the Pioneers to an 11-9 victory over Cal State Monterey Bay last Saturday, scoring four goals, adding two assists and grabbing three steals. It was the fifth time this season that Bill has thrown in at least four goals in a game, two of which have come against the Otters. The freshman leads CSUEB in goals (43), assists (25) and steals (38), and is third in the WWPA in points (68).

This is the second WWPA Player of the Week award for Bill this spring, she also earned the nod six weeks ago.

Looking ahead to this week, Mercyhurst (3-11) will face Grove City College on Wednesday and Penn State-Behrend on Thursday, both on the road, Cal State Monterey Bay (6-10) will host Fresno Pacific on Friday, and Cal State East Bay (11-12, 1-1 WWPA) will take on Sonoma State (8-17, 0-1 WWPA) in a big WWPA matchup in Rohnert Park on Saturday. Gannon (6-10) and UC San Diego (16-14) are off this week.

In two-and-a-half weeks, all six WWPA teams will converge on the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio for the 2017 WWPA Women's Championship, set for April 28-30. This year's event will be hosted by Mercyhurst. The teams will compete for the WWPA title and the opportunity to capture the conference's automatic qualifier into the NCAA Women's Water Polo Championships on May 12-14 at the University of Indiana Natatorium in Indianapolis.
