VISTA, Calif. - The Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) is pleased to announce its 2022 all-conference teams ahead of this weekend's WWPA Championship, Nov. 18-20, at the Burns Center in Los Angeles. The honorees were decided by a vote of conference head coaches.
Loyola Marymount's David Carrasco earned Player of the Year and first-team honors after a standout senior season. His 54 points and 35 goals in conference games were most in the WWPA. Carrasco put together four straight conference games of five goals or more between Oct. 27-Nov. 5, highlighted by a seven-goal outburst in a key WWPA win over UC San Diego that provided the edge for the WWPA Championship's No. 2 seed.
The Barcelona product won WWPA Player of the Week twice in 2022 (Oct. 10-16 & Oct. 24-30), and his first-team selection is the third of his collegiate career.
Joining his teammate on the first team is Blazo Mitrovic. The Montenegro-native was the 2018 WWPA Freshman of the Year, the 2019 WWPA Player of the Year, and this year's first-team selection means he has made the top squad all four years of his career. Mitrovic ranked just behind Carrasco in goals and points in conference games.
UC Davis had three players named to the first team and matched LMU with a conference-high five players across all squads. Aleix Aznar Beltran, Logan Anderson and Aaron Wilson are all first-time All-WWPA First Team selections for the Aggies.
Wilson, the 2021 WWPA Championship Most Outstanding Player, led the league in goals-against-average (8.80) and third in save percentage (.519).
Air Force's Grant Snyder earned his third straight first team honor. The senior's 114 goals were 40 more than the next highest player in the conference, and his 171 total points led the WWPA. The 2019 WWPA Freshman of the Year also had two WWPA Player of the Week honors in 2022 (Aug. 29-Sept. 4 & Sept. 12-18).
UC San Diego's Vedran Latkovic earned his first career first-team honor after leading the Tritons in goals and points during his senior year.
UCSD's Bennett Axline took home WWPA Freshman of the Year honors, marking the first time a Triton took home the first-year award since 2017.
