DAVIS, Calif. -- In helping his team to its best start since 2011, Cal Baptist sophomore driver Dominick Nevarez has been named the first Western Water Polo Association player of the week for the 2017 season the league announced on Wednesday afternoon.

Nevarez led the No. 15 Lancers in goals and points on the weekend, helping his squad to wins over Wagner, McKendree University, and No. 14 Bucknell, at the Bruno Fall Classic in Providence, R.I., adding three assists and two steals in the four games.

The Cerritos, Calif., native was very efficient, scoring 13 goals on 18 shots (.722 shooting percentage), while logging a trio of hat tricks during the tournament. The kinesiology major finished with five goals in Cal Baptist's upset of the nationally ranked Bison, added four more in the opening-game win over the Seahawks, and tallied three in the win over the Bearcats.

Also nominated: Angel Rojas (Concordia); Marcus Anderson (UC Davis); Justin Harrison (Air Force).
