WWPA Weekly Release No. 6 (Oct. 11, 2017)

MOMDZHYAN'S FIVE GOALS HELPS TRITONS INTO FIRST PLACE: UC San Diego senior utility Arman Momdzhyan has been named the Western Water Polo Association's player of the week on Wednesday after helping power the No. 12 Tritons into sole possession of first place in the league with a win over No. 19 Loyola Marymount last week.

It is the second career weekly award for Momdzhyan, who picked up the honor for the first time since Sept. 14, 2016.

The human development major from Glendale, Calif., helped UC San Diego win its third game against the Lions this season, scoring five times in the Tritons' 12-8 victory. The five goals were just one shy of his season high of six scored against Fresno Pacific on Sept. 14 and marked the senior's seventh hat trick of the year.

Entering the week, Momdzhyan ranks fourth in the league with 34 goals scored and third in both goals (2.83) and points per game (3.17).

Also nominated: Tanner Shore (Cal Baptist, Junior, Utility); Josh Ramage (Fresno Pacific, Sophomore, Goalkeeper).

IN THE RANKINGS: Three teams continue to rank among the top 20 in the latest Collegiate Water Polo Association poll released on Wednesday (Oct. 11), with UC Davis continuing to lead the pack at No. 10 for a third consecutive week. UC San Diego remained at No. 12, but is now tied for the spot with St. Francis, while Cal Baptist slipped two spots to No. 17 despite a 3-1 week. Air Force (two votes) and Loyola Marymount (one vote) make up half of the group receiving votes.
