Concordia University Irvine has been fully admitted as a member of the Western Water Polo Association men's conference, announced outgoing commissioner Christy Sicard this week. The announcement comes on the heels of CUI earning approval as a full-fledged NCAA Division II institution after years as a member of the NAIA.

DAVIS, Calif. -- Concordia University Irvine has been fully admitted as a member of the Western Water Polo Association men's conference, announced outgoing commissioner Christy Sicard this week. The announcement comes on the heels of CUI earning approval as a full-fledged NCAA Division II institution after years as a member of the NAIA.

"Concordia University Irvine is excited to be joining the WWPA conference," said Director of Athletics Mo Roberson. "We appreciate the opportunity to compete against some great universities and it should be a challenging and exciting conference."

Concordia will begin its third season under the direction of head coach Dreason Barry, the three-time All-American and USA National Team alumnus. The Eagles join a conference that comprises Air Force, Cal Baptist, Fresno Pacific, Loyola Marymount, Santa Clara, UC Davis and UC San Diego. CUI competed as a provisional member of the conference in 2016, facing each member except UC Davis during the latter third of the schedule. The Concordia women joined the Golden Coast Conference in 2015-16.

The WWPA, which holds an automatic qualifier for the National Collegiate (NCAA) Championship, was founded in 1981.
