2017 WWPA Women's All-Conference Team (PDF)

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. -- UC San Diego senior center Lauren Boyer has been named the 2017 Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) Women's Player of the Year, highlighting Tuesday's release of the 2017 WWPA Women's All-Conference Teams.  The Tritons had a league-best seven players honored, including two First Team selections.

Boyer, a native of Honolulu, Hawaii, has been the offensive leader in the conference all season long, tallying a WWPA-high 71 goals and 81 points.  She has earned WWPA postseason honors all four years of her career – an All-Freshman Team and Newcomer of the Year honoree in 2014, an Honorable Mention nod in 2015, and a Second Team selection in 2016 before adding First Team and Player of the Year accolades to her already impressive resume this year.  She was also an Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) All-American Second Team selection as a junior last season. Boyer is also a standout in the classroom, earning ACWPC All-Academic honors the past three years.

It is the fifth straight year that UC San Diego has boasted the WWPA's Player of the Year -- former Triton Sarah Lizotte earned the honor in 2013 and 2014, Courtney Miller was voted as the top player in 2015 and Laurel Kistler held the distinction in 2016.

Cal State East Bay freshman Auriel Bill was named the WWPA Women's Newcomer of the Year.  The Canadian native of Estevan, Saskatchewan led the Pioneers with 46 goals, 26 assists, 72 points and 40 steals and was third in the WWPA in points per game (3.00).  She was also named to the All-WWPA First Team and the WWPA's All-Freshman Team.

UC San Diego, Cal State East Bay and Sonoma State all had two players each selected to the All-WWPA First Team – Boyer and senior Alexis Wieseler for UCSD, Bill and goalie Nikki Vaughan for CSUEB, and senior Nicole Groat and sophomore Lyndsie Williams for SSU. Cal State Monterey Bay sophomore Marisa Lovos rounded out the seven-player All-WWPA First Team.

The announcement of the 2017 WWPA Women's All-Conference Teams comes just three days prior to the start of the 2017 WWPA Women's Championship, which is set to take place this Friday through Sunday, Apr. 28-30 hosted by Mercyhurst at SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
