UC Davis sophomore attacker Ido Goldschmidt was chosen as the Western Water Polo Association Player of the Year while UC San Diego utility Skyler Munatones claimed Freshman of the Year accolades, highlighting the 2016 All-WWPA men's awards as voted by the member coaching staffs.

Goldschmidt, a left-hander from Herzliya, Israel, led the first-place Aggies in both goals (43) and assists (37), and ranks fifth in the conference with 81 total points. The 2015 All-America honorable mention recorded eight hat tricks in 2016, including four-goal performances against Princeton (Sept. 24) and George Washington (Oct. 23).

Munatones has 27 goals and 23 assists for 50 total points for the second-place Tritons, ranking second on his team in all three categories. He performed four hat tricks in the regular season, including three goals and three assists each against Brown (Sept. 9) and Cal Lutheran (Sept. 15).

UC Davis and UC San Diego each landed five players on the All-WWPA teams, which consists of a first team, second team and honorable mention list. The first-place Aggies put two on the first team, namely Goldschmidt and fellow sophomore Sasa Antunovic. The second-place Tritons boasts junior utility Arman Momdzhyan on the top squad.

Cal Baptist claimed two members of the All-WWPA first team in seniors Brent Teraoka and Joseph Moorman, the latter of whom collected the most votes among the league's goalkeepers. Loyola Marymount, which had four total All-WWPA honorees, found sophomore center Dayne Jagga on the first team. Air Force snared the remaining first-team slot with junior utility Riley Thomas.

Santa Clara is the only WWPA member to send two honorees to the All-Freshman squad. Utility Mac Carey, one of the challengers to Munatones for Freshman of the Year, represents the Broncos among the field players while Keaton Fox was the lone goalie nominated for the award.

The coaches of the seven full-fledged members – UC Davis, UC San Diego, LMU, Air Force, Cal Baptist, Santa Clara and Fresno Pacific – submit nominations then rank the candidates. The top six field players and top goalie based on these votes earn first-team honors, the next six field players and the next-highest goalie make the second team, while the third six field players and third-ranked goalie garner honorable mention. The 2016 honorable mention list went seven deep among field players due to ties in the voting.

For WWPA All-Freshman, the coaches rank their top field players among the candidates, with the top six vote-getters and top goalie making the final roster.

The WWPA holds its annual championship tournament at Santa Clara's Sullivan Aquatic Center this Friday through Sunday. The winner earns the conference's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Championship, hosted by California from December 2-4.
