WEEK 2 NOTES:
Cal State Monterey Bay’s Katie Sowul named KAP7 WWPA Player of the Week.

COMING UP:
The UC San Diego Triton Invitational will dominate action this weekend as six WWPA programs will make the trip to La Jolla, the site of this seasons WWPA Championships in April. It is a loaded field that will see plenty of top-20 showdowns. CSU Bakersfield will start the action off with their third meeting against No. 6 Arizona State, followed by the host Tritons taking on No. 16 UC Santa Barbara, Sonoma State taking on No. 18 San Diego State, Santa Clara facing No. 9 Indiana and in the lone match-up between WWPA foes, No. 12 LMU will face Cal State East Bay.
UC San Diego will start the week with a match-up at home against Marist. Other match-ups on the week will include Colorado State traveling east for the Princeton Invitational and Cal State San Bernardino playing at the Occidental Mini.
KAP7 WWPA PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
•Already playing one of its toughest schedules in program history just three weeks into the season, senior Katie Sowul gave Cal State Monterey Bay a huge lift on the week, earning KAP7 Player of the Week honors on Feb. 8. Sowul had a team-high eight goals in a pair of games, including five in the program’s first-ever win over conference foe Santa Clara (10-4) on Saturday. Sowul then added three more in a win over Fresno Pacific (10-4) as the Otters improved to 5-3 on the seaosn and 1-1 in the WWPA.
MORE TOP PERFORMANCES:
•Sophomore driver Taylor Hanson led CSU Bakersfield in a pair of games last week, scoring four goals with three assists and two ejections drawn at the Cal Baptist Mini Invitational. She had a hat-trick against host Cal Baptist, including the game winner.
•Freshman Ashleigh Bandimere scored a season-high five goals against Fresno Pacific to lead the Santa Clara to the win. Bandimere allowed Santa Clara to jump to out to leads of 5-3 and 9-4. She was chosen as The Santa Clara Player of the Week for her performance on Saturday. She also netted a goal in Friday afternoon’s loss to No. 12 Michigan. Santa Clara’s Laura Espinosa’s four earned ejections this past weekend tied the Meg Zimmerman’s (2007-2010) school record mark of 183. Sophomore Claire Eadington and Freshman Ashleigh Bandimere each lead the Broncos with 13 goals apiece. Eadington has continued her outstanding all-around play, leading the team in goals, assists, and steals while ranking 2nd in earned ejections. Bandimere was named Athlete of the Week by The Santa Clara, the school newspaper. Sarah Safir snagged a career-high six steals in the Broncos win over Fresno-Pacific.
