WWPA Commissioner

The Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) invites applications for the part-time position of Commissioner. The WWPA is composed of two conferences. The men’s conference consists of eight Colleges and Universities, and the women’s conference is made up of six Colleges and Universities in NCAA Water Polo.

The Commissioner will serve as the Chief Administrative Officer for the WWPA and work directly for the Chairs of the WWPA Executive Committees of both the men and women. The commissioner will also supervise the association’s director of officials and sports information director, and will also work closely with the Men’s and Women’s Coaches groups.

The Commissioner is expected to show initiative in advancing the best interests of the WWPA, resolving Association problems at the lowest practical level, and suggesting legislation or business practices to improve the functionality of the WWPA and the sports of NCAA Men’s and Women’s Water Polo.

Duties include, but are not limited to, implementing Executive Committee policies and procedures. Collect and disburse funds as approved by the Executive Committees and providing annual revenue and expense reports. Help plan and organize Executive Committee and Coaches meetings and recording the minutes of these meetings. Serve as a non-voting member on each WWPA committee. Maintain each association’s non-profit status. Ensure proper NCAA forms and fees are submitted annually to maintain WWPA Automatic Qualifications for the Association’s Championship to participate in the NCAA Championships. Manage and conduct the WWPA Championship tournaments. Assist in the hiring, supervising, training and managing of the WWPA Sports Information Director and Director of Officials. Represent the WWPA at NCAA Water Polo Championships and maintaining constructive liaison with all other NCAA Water Polo Conference Commissioners, the NCAA Rules Committees and the NCAA Director of Officials. Monitor WWPA teams to ensure teams are complying with WWPA Bylaws and NCAA playing rules, and helping to resolve conflicts that arise in the Association. Salary is $10,000 annually for the projected 200 hours of annual work. Travel and administrative expenses are covered by the WWPA.
